It's kind of funny, but after attending the Matthew Barney opening of "The Cremaster Cycle" and raving about it to all my friends for weeks afterwards, I read an article in the New York Press titled "Post Boredom- Matthew Barney isn't Transgressive. He's a fraud" and had to laugh in recognition of the sorry state of the art world. The author goes on to say that the Conceptual art movement was responsible for foisting "purposely obscure, boring art" which was "absorbed into the bedrock of contemporary art like acid rain" thus creating an environment where a guy like Matthew Barney would be hailed as the savior of "Post-Boredom" art. The author concludes with..."The only lasting memory to be had at the Guggenheim is how this bloated fraud was perpetrated on the art world in the first place."
